What does a house sitter do?

A house sitter stays in your home while you're away, providing care for your pets in their familiar environment. They handle feeding, walking, playtime, and can also collect mail, water plants, and keep your home secure.

How do I prepare my home for a house sitter?

Leave clear instructions for pet care routines, show the sitter where pet supplies are kept, provide emergency contact numbers, and give them a spare key. A home tour before your trip is recommended.

Can house sitters care for other animals besides dogs and cats?

Yes! Many house sitters have experience with birds, reptiles, fish, small mammals, and even farm animals. Check sitter profiles for their specific animal experience.

When am I charged?

If you pay by card, the amount is held when you book and charged about 3 days later. PayPal and some local payment methods are charged right away. The checkout screen shows which applies before you pay.

What if I need to cancel?

Every booking has a free cancellation deadline, shown at checkout and in the booking details. If you cancel in the app before it, you can get your payment back or have it added to your Sittsy balance. After the deadline, the payment is not refunded.

What if the sitter cancels?

Sitters can cancel a confirmed booking only in an emergency. If a booking is cancelled because of the sitter, you get a full refund for the care that was not provided, including the Sittsy service fee.

What if something goes wrong during a booking?

Report it in the app or at support@sittsy.com before the sitter is paid, which is normally 24 hours after the booking ends. If the sitter did not provide the care as agreed, Sittsy can refund you in full or in part.
